Halloween is not my favorite holiday. I am a Christmas gal through and through. I celebrate all things Halloween for Lyla, my daughter. We have our rituals that I tag along on with her. My favorite thing in the world is watching the joy she gets by holidays and Halloween is right up her alley. She creates her own costumes and loves horror movies, something I’m the opposite of because I’m a scaredy cat.
Here’s a peek into our weekly rituals:
watching:
We watch many horror movies during the month of October leading up to Halloween, but also watch many nostalgic specials, as well. Here’s a list of some of our favorites. I’ve placed asterisks next to the ones my daughter loves.
it’s the great pumpkin, charlie brown
toy story of terror!
treehouse of horror episodes
hocus pocus
halloweentown
the rocky horror picture show

baking:
I’m not a big baker, mostly because I burn everything (I’m a much better cook than a baker). My daughter is also not a big fan of sweets, but we have our favorites we make together every year. Lyla also has braces so we can’t do anything ooey-gooey with caramel and the likes.
pillsbury pumpkin cookies
pillsbury apple turnovers
pumpkin spice cookies
pumpkin seeds
hot chocolate from scratch with all the toppings
popcorn for movie nights
any kind of soup, especially chicken noodle or chicken & rice
crafting:
I’m the pumpkin carver in the family, but Lyla does all the designs because she’s very good at art (I’m not just bias, she really is). Lyla hates scooping out the seeds because of the sliminess of pumpkin guts.

What routines and rituals do you do every year for Halloween? Let me know in the comments.
Hope to see you here again,
