I have a confession to make: I am not an organized reader when it comes to my physical books. My Goodreads shelves are so organized, it’s easy to find anything on them because I have a shelf for everything. In real life though, it’s another story. I’ve been trying to find the best solution on how to organize my bookshelves (without buying another bookshelf). Here’s a list of ideas I came up with:
hardcover and paperback. - Separate them by type of book. You can go even further and organize them even more once you’ve done this.
color. - I think the look of shelves organized by color is so pretty. I’m not sure if it’s for me, but the aesthetic is visually pleasing. Remembering what color every book I want to read would be way too much for me. This also wouldn’t work if you don’t have a lot of colorful books.
genre. - This would not work for me due to my reading habits being mostly thrillers, mysteries and romance. All my others are read through eBook format.
alphabetically. - You can either do this by author last name or title. If you want to go a step further and know the classification systems, you can organize by Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress Classification.
make 1 shelf your tbr shelf. - This is one I am eager to do. The pile on my nightstand is getting lower, but I have some tucked away on the shelf under the top of my nightstand. It’s out of control, but having a shelf dedicated to books I still need to read would get my OCD under control about the clutter in my bedroom.
size. - You can organize by size, keeping small ones together and the same for larger novels. I think majority of my collection are the same size, but I do have some cookbooks that need to be organized better. I have a project in mind for those in my kitchen, but I need to save money for a shelf first.
That’s all from me today. How do you organize your bookshelves? Let me know.
Hope to see you here again,
Kirsten
Very useful! I organize mine by author first and then genre. Of course my book shelves are not of the 'instagram' variety but of the 'avid reader' variety. I love that I can put my hands on any book that I am looking for without much trolling.
