trigger warnings: mental health, depression
Have you ever had such a problem that you couldn’t figure out how to fix it and you are trying everything? That’s the dilemma I’ve been faced with since this summer started. If you haven’t read my Introducing myself post, I’ve linked it below. It highlights my struggle with mental health because I have Borderline Personality Disorder.
This summer I’ve struggled with loneliness, depression, among other things that may be triggering to some. I have a LOT of pet peeves and the city I live in triggers many of them. Recently, I started journaling to get my frustrations and worries out and it is a game changer. I’ve been all over the internet looking for journal prompts to get the creative juices flowing.
I’ve been trying to find the best journal for myself and my mind. I like a pretty cover so I’ve been scouring the web looking for the best brand and design, as well as the best price. I recently bought a small notebook from my local Winners that was on sale for a great price and have started using that, but I know that same one won’t be there again when I go.
In doing all this, I think I’ve found what I’m needing.
I saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice this weekend with my mom, daughter and her friend. We got the 4D seats, which was a thrill! They move and shake with the scenes of the movie and I highly recommend this experience, especially if you have kids. The movie itself was so good! It was campy and fun like the original and made me laugh out loud.
I also binge-watched The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives on Disney+ because those of us in Canada don’t get Hulu. All I can say is wow, if you haven’t watched this yet, I recommend it if you’re into trashy reality shows. At first I didn’t care for any of the women on there, but as I watched each episode, I realized there are definitely some I like more than others. I love reality tv and watch pretty much every Bravo show and this one is right in the same ballpark.
With it now officially fall, I’m hoping to make more fall treats. I try to make a different soup every week and this week’s soup I’m eyeing is this Italian Wedding Soup recipe. I also have my eye on this Puff Pastry Apple Galette, which is screaming fall to me. I’m thinking about making this Vanilla Chai Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew because holy moly this sounds soooo good.
I’m still making my way through Phantasma by Kaylie Smith. I mentioned this book in a previous newsletter. I got it through my Book of the Month subscription. It’s a pretty thick book so it’s taking me a bit to get through.
I also started working my way through the Point Horror novels from Scholastic. These books were horror for teens in the 90s and all had the Point Horror logo on the cover. I’ve only read a few so far, but I’m liking Christopher Pike’s and R.L Stine’s novels in the universe so far. They’re all completely unrelated so you can pick up any of them at any point.
