I write a book substack (bookstack?) and I thought it would be fun to compile a list of where I find new and upcoming releases. I bookmark sites so I can go back to them and check each week what has been released and what upcoming books there are. I also subscribe to a few emails that send updates.
Goodreads - I stalk my GR feed daily and follow authors and people who have similar reading habits as me. I also use the lists and explore features on there, as well as the New Releases page. I subscribe to their monthly email of upcoming releases for the month. This is the main reading platform I use, but I know there’s a few others such as Storygraph. I also have a list on GR for to-be-released books and I check it every day and remove any that have been released.
Blogs - I use Feed.ly to follow blogs and it’s part of my morning routine to check them. I also use Pocket to refer back to articles that I don’t have time to read but want to for later. Here’s a list of some of the blogs I follow for books:
Book Riot - I LOVE Book Riot. It always has the best articles in terms of being a reader or someone who markets them (like me in a library). They have various newsletters that you can subscribe to for new releases by genre.
B&N Reads - The Barnes & Noble blog is another great one. They have different posts and I especially look forward to their monthly pick posts. I’m Canadian so I don’t shop here for books, but I do enjoy seeing what is popular there.
Chaotic Creatives - This is an author service, but they also provide Advance Reader Copies (ARCs) for romance & mm romance books. I subscribe to the blog for what new releases are added to their services, but don’t use ARCs.
Forever Young Adult - A great website for all things young adult.
Goodreads Blog - I love their weekly release lists and their themed lists coinciding with seasonal and special literary weeks and months.
Newsletters - I subscribe to a few emails that have book picks, new and upcoming releases in them. I like having them in my email because it’s easier to refer back to them and to add to my GR tbr list. A few I subscribe to are Book Riot’s, Goodreads, as well as a few for mm romance books.
Substacks - I couldn’t make a list about where I get recommendations for books without adding my substack reads. There is a niche for every kind of reader on here so it’s not hard to find a few that you love. Some of my favorites are:
Book Enthusiast by Becca Freeman - Becca’s recs are ones I look forward to every post she writes. Her 100 Best Books of the 21st Century as Voted By Us! post is a memorable one because it mimics the NYT list, but with books chosen by readers like us.
Feeling My Shelf by Alexis Reliford - A newsletter about books and life with books. Alexis’ writing is for anyone who reads. I also love her recommendations on not only books, but about things on the web and in the media.
Overbooked Mama by Kuleigh Baker - I love Kuleigh’s posts because they’re so relatable. I look forward to seeing what she read each month because it gives me good recs.
I hope this gave you an insight into my reading habits and how I find books to add to my tbr list. Let me know where you find books to pick up.
Hope to see you here again,
Kirsten
